Improving Working Lives

South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust recognises that many employees combine their working life with the responsibility of raising a family or caring for dependant elderly relatives, as well as other domestic commitments. We are committed to improving working lives through helping staff balance the demands of domestic and work responsibilities.

Annual appraisals

All our staff have the opportunity to be appraised annually so they can be supported in completing a personal development plan, irrespective of their working patterns.

Childcare

We have a day nursery and childcare coordinators to help staff who have parental responsibilities.

All staff are eligible to join the NHS Pension Scheme.

Secure environment

We are fortunate in South Devon, with relatively few instances of verbal or physical abuse, or theft. Nevertheless, we take staff safety and security extremely seriously. Torbay Hospital has a camera security system which is monitored 24 hours a day. There are security guards on patrol. If your car is parked in the hospital car park you may contact security to escort you to your vehicle to ensure your safety at the end of your shift late at night.

Smoke free workplace

The Trust operates a 'no smoking' policy to provide a smoke-free environment for patients, staff and visitors, and to encourage health promotion.

Staff accommodation

We have limited accommodation on site which may be available for short-term lets and we also have new studio apartments nearby. If we are unable to suit your needs we will endeavour to assist you, wherever possible, to find private accommodation.

Staff awards

The Trust operates a Staff Award Scheme to reward staff who continually give exceptional service to the Trust.

Staff restaurant

The Bayview Restaurant provides a very full and varied menu, of both hot and cold food with subsidised prices for staff.
