South Devon Healthcare Arts
The Gallery at Torbay Hospital is a well-established and very public showcase for professional artists, staging around eight exhibitions a year. The Gallery is close to the hospital's main entrance, and is open 24 hours a day.
It is funded through a charitable trust - South Devon Healthcare Arts - which promotes Arts in Hospital.
Exhibiting in The Gallery
From time to time, portfolios are invited from artists interested in holding an exhibition in The Gallery.
The space suits bright, positive, uplifting or gentle artwork which is two-dimensional and original, and we particularly like to exhibit good quality work by local artists.
We also have a smaller, quieter gallery space at the entrance to the hospital chapel, with seasonal exhibitions.

Current Gallery Exhibition
The current exhibition at Torbay Hospital's Gallery features a collection of photographs by Paula Wakeham (1968-2011), former Communications Manager for the Trust.
Paula was often asked to exhibit her photos, something that sadly did not happen as a solo exhibition during her lifetime. The works currently on display will later be transferred to the refurbished Breast Care Unit as a lasting legacy to Paula's involvement in the on-going project to improve the patient environment within the Breast Care Unit, which she strongly supported both personally and professionally.
The current exhibition is on display until 25th May 2012.

Staff Open Art Exhibition 2012 - 26th June to 6th August
Do you Paint? Print? Draw? Take Photographs? Create Textiles?
If so, then you should enter the South Devon Healthcare Arts competition. The inspiration for this year's entries should be:
National Transplant Week's Theme: 'Pass it On'
National Transplant Week runs from 9-15 July 2012 and this year's theme, 'Pass it On,' is working to encourage people to talk about their end of life wishes surrounding organ and tissue donation. The theme also highlights the importance of joining the organ donor register if it is something you really believe in.
The deadline for entries is Monday 4th June 2012
